The first attraction or eyesore of this hike was a large industrial site containing the regional landfill and perhaps something else because a high fence topped with barbed wire guarded the site from intruders. The trail hugged the fence for a while. We transferred to another trail and headed north over a low pass between high rock walls to the west and a low forested moraine to the east. For extra challenge we took a climbers access trail toward Goat Wall. The access trail rose gently through woods but after a couple kilometres disappeared in a gully below Goat Buttress. We hiked up a little higher on slippery ground to some rocks offering views to Bow Valley and the hills beyond and had our first lunch there. Just below we admired some giant Douglas firs with extra large trunks. Back on the main trail we turned off to Crescent Lake, a delightful spot where we had our second lunch. Unfortunately, by this time, the brilliant sunshine reflecting from the freshly fallen snow on the ground was replaced with cloudy skies and the temperature cooled considerably. Up we went over a forested moraine and down to Reed Lake. Another picture taking spot. We looped through forest back to the landfill. The ladies of the hike displayed good physical fitness, mental toughness, and cheerful disposition. Peter Minarik Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
