A beautiful day on Old Baldy ridge! We started the hike at 9:10 am. The cairn marking the turn off the main trail is almost exactly 2 km from the parking lot. From there we followed the creek for another 600 m before starting our steep and relentless climb up the SW ridge through trees, the rock band and finally the scree before reaching the open top of the ridge about 12:30. After a leisurely lunch stop overlooking the valley and peaks to the west we made our way to the end of the ridge and then returned to the valley floor via the same route. I would rate this as an extra-difficult hike because of the steepness of the accent/descent. The meadows on the ridge were full of a variety of wildflowers and the occasional exotic mushroom. Back at the parking lot by 4:30 pm. Total elevation gain was 917 meters and distance was 14.13 km. It took us 6 h 34 min to complete the hike (not including our lunch stop). All in all, another great day in the mountains! Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
