Write Up:
We accomplished what we set out to do. Mike was a huge asset with his excellent leadership skills and knowledge of the trail. Climbing the first four hills in the heat was gruelling. After a rest at the top, Mike guided us to the lunch spot, a route that wasn't clear to the rest of the group. Rather than take the shortcut after lunch, we decided to head across the field, up the hill and along the far ridge before returning down to the valley.

The hike took 6 hours, with a distance of 16km and an elevation gain of 650m.

DIRECTIONS
  • Anderson to Black Diamond - 40 minutes/49km.
  • Black Diamond to Chain Lakes, where there are restroom facilities, - 35 minutes/56km.
  • Chain Lakes to trailhead - 20 minutes/31km south on Hwy. 22.

Pull into the fairly wide opening at the rancher's gate on the right. You will see the rancher's home on a raised piece of land on the left. Take as few cars as possible as space is limited. No parking in front of the double gate. The rancher asks that while doing the hike, all gates are to be closed and no litter should be left on his land.
