This was an enjoyable and interesting hike in the foothills of the Sheep River. We started the hike by detouring to a waterfall where the creek tumbled down a high cliff below the road but was not visible from the road. We followed a trail on the right side of East Canyon Creek to the upper end of the valley on a cutline. The trail was good but boggy and muddy at places. We walked up the cutline on a good trail to the crest of the Gleason Ridge, easily walking around a few fallen trees. The ridge between the highway and the cutline has six small summits. A good trail led from the cutline to Summit 6 but soon ran into significant deadfall, but we found an easy way through and around it. Between Summits 5 and 4 we needed to study a map because the main ridge veered sharply east into a treed saddle. The trail and the views improved as we progressed south over the remaining summits. We descended steeply along a cliff’s edge and later steep grassy slope along the Windy Point Ridge back to our parking spot.
