11 hikers decided to venture out to Chester Lake despite the showers in the forecast. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the temperature dipped to 10C at the trailhead. We found the beginning of the old trail had been replaced by a new bridge and trail that bypass the flood damage. As we climbed the temperature dropped to 5C and we could see bad weather behind us. At the lake the wind picked up and we decided to continue on to Elephant Rocks. There were signs of a grizzly digging up glacier lilies, but we did not see the bear. Snow flakes began to fall encouraging us to finish up lunch. The snow got heavier as we headed back. Big wet snowflakes started to stick to the vegetation and the temperature dropped to 3C. About 2/3 of the way down the snow changed to rain. Just goes to show that you need to pack those gloves, rain gear and extra layers even in July. Everyone was cheerful and we had a lovely hike despite the deteriorating weather. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
