Healy Pass, September 4, 2021. Starting east of the usual parking lot (due to construction work), we walked up the Healy Creek in cool but pleasant temperatures to the Pass where the sun shone on us - about 17 degrees for lunch!- and a blue sky with just the occasional cloud. Mount Ball to the north (3311 m) and in the far distance, Mount Assiniboine at 3618 m: superb views. On the trail the bunchberries showed off their scarlet berries, and the occasional blackcurrants tempted us ... a few branches of the Alpine Larches were just turning golden. Due to the temporary car parking site we had a small extra elevation gain too so the total was 956 m, with a distance of 20.6 km return. Starting at 9:00 am, we were back after a leisurely lunch by 4 pm: a great day for the seven of us. Some photographs by Maryam Fereydoon and guest Mike Hosse will be in the album shortly. Deb Giles and myself think this hike should be rated as moderate rather than difficult, and that when the parking lot reconstruction is finished, in the “Choices for additional hikes”, the metrics should be say 955 m & 20.5 km.
