Write Up:
Great hike with a small but a great, gender-balanced group. The scenery was outstanding with peaks of all kinds and shape rising to the sky. The first half of the hike was on a good trail to Paget Lookout, which we reached in one hour and twenty minutes. After a good rest we continued up the mountain, with steep but enjoyable hiking, reaching the summit in three hours from the trailhead, The only problem was a very steep dirt gulley with a sprinkle of scree on top to make it more unpleasant. We had to cross it diagonally up and then again diagonally down on descent. There was also a slightly exposed but easy down climb into the vertical east face on the way from the false to the true summit but this could be bypassed on boulders on the more gently sloping west side. It was a pleasant if not hot summer day on the way up but the summit greeted us with strong cold wind and fresh snow on the ground. We found a sunny, comfortable spot on the lee side for lunch. After climbing down from the mountain, the group did not feel like going home yet so we hiked up to the nearby Sherbrooke Lake for relaxation and more conversation.Since this was a long weekend we met a lot of friendly people on the trails, with a handful continuing on to the summit. We ended the hike with a little tale gate party, drinks provided courtesy of Dean. Peter Minarik
