Our hike to Lower Galatea Lake went very well. Our group of seven stopped at Lillian Lake for a snack and a facilities break. The section from Lillian Lake to the Lower Galatea was quite a challenge for some of us but with lots of short breaks we all managed to make it there for lunch. During our lunch break we had a young fellow come ask our group if we had any duct tape to spare. Apparently his father had a hiking shoe that was losing its sole so we gave him a couple of zip ties and off he went expressing his gratitude. After a relaxing lunch we put on rain gear and headed down the slope. About twenty minutes later we took the gear off. After another twenty minutes we donned the rain gear again and kept it on for the remainder of the descent. Along the way we encountered a considerable amount of hail. We were in the hail section for about one hour with hail stones typically 5 mm. diameter and during a short section we had 10 mm. diameter stones. Along the way down there were a couple of hikers took minor falls with just bruised egos to show for it. During our hike we encountered several hikers that were poorly prepared for this hike, we just shook our heads. The hike ended at the Galatea parking lot a refreshing snack of almost cold watermelon. Thanks to all who participated on the hike! Happy Trails! Gerry Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
