The Galatea Lakes hike, in perfect 19C weather with a light updraft from the Galatea Creek. Most in our group going up to the grand Galatea Lakes had not been there since before the 2013 flood so it was a long awaited pleasure to be on the path again. What has changed? Not only the course of Galatea Creek in many places , but the scenery ON the creek has been altered and sometimes almost obstructed by fallen trees. The bridges have been replaced and some are made of recycled plastic." Are they biodegradable", you ask? No they are not: they look and feel as sturdy as the former steel bridges. Apart from that, the wildflowers are just as beautiful, the 3 lakes just as pristine and the scenery just as breathtaking. Six of the group returned after lunch at the first Galatea Lake and six of us continued on the Upper Galatea Lake where the scenery was too beautiful for words.
