Write Up:
The hike went very well. The weather was light rain occasionally so it was on with the rainwear and off, and on , and off agin thru the morning. It made the mountains mysterious and dynamic. We went the extra 1.3 kms to the lateral moraine and learned about the terminal moraines, lateral moraines the eskers formation and the hanging glacial valleys that are all around that area. The term search is etched in one teachers vocabulary now. The death trap opened up once so we got a quick view of the Phillip abbot hit. Then it happened. Not one but two icefalls right in fromt of us from the edge of the high Columbia glacier. It tumbled down like a thunder Peale and spread a patch of white on the death trap floor. There were car sized blocks of ice that preceded the few of broken ice that flowed down slower like a river or waterfall of white ice. It always seems a good idea to go no matter what the weather shows. A little rain shouldn't stop you. Lightening may be something to change your directions but discretion is needed for this . It didn't play a part in this outing but has to be remembered...
