Write Up:
We left the the Skoki Lodge parking lot at 8:30 am. Just past the Temple Lodge we headed up a faint trail into the valley leading to the base of Purple Bowl. We soon broke into the open meadow. Shortly thereafter we were above the tree line, and proceeded up the scree slopes. These were described by one of the group as walking on well packed wood chips. When we crested Purple Bowl we were greeted by an amazing view of the east end of the Bow Valley, including Mt. Assiniboine in the distance. Below us was a group of 3 big horn sheep. After a short rest, we headed along a wide ridge to the top of Mt. Lipalian. The views from the top was described as absolutely majestic. At 8,950 ft. you look down over the entire Bow Valley with a view of Herbert Lake along the Jasper Parkway, Hidden Lake in behind Richardson Ridge, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Island Lake and an unnamed lake. Many participants commented that it was amazing to look straight across the valley and be almost level with the Mount Temple glacier. Reluctantly we headed down after lunch, proceeding along the top of Wolverine Ridge with views of Merlin Ridge spreading out ahead of us. We descended off Wolverine Ridge down a steep larch covered slope back into the valley. We were back at the parking lot at 4:00 pm. I would like to thank everyone for joining me on this memorable adventure.
